Molecular residual disease (MRD) is the presence of a small amount of tumor-derived molecules, including genetic material that remain after cancer treatment. Researchers take one of two approaches when developing molecular residual disease (MRD) tests: tumor-informed, which incorporates a person’s individual tumor variants in a personalized panel to identify recurrence, or tumor-naïve, which uses common biomarkers across a particular cancer indication to test multiple patients for these shared biomarkers.
